Devised by MA/MFA International students at East 15 School of Acting, “The Thin Place” tells the story of a family in the throes of grief, and invites its audience to experience the ways we can allow ourselves to heal in the open, within a community.
Originally a school assignment, this piece blossomed into a message about generational trauma, grief, and healing. During our creative process, the company realized that this story had touched us and our peers far beyond the initial expectations of our assignment. So much so, we decided it should be taken to both the Camden Fringe Festival (London) and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival (Scotland). We feel the need to follow the evolution of this piece as far as we can, and with that comes some fundraising! We are launching this campaign to fund production costs, accommodations, and travel fees for our fringe circuit. As our company is exclusively made of full time international students - newly immigrated to the UK - receiving funding for these expenses would reduce the financial burden put onto company members. Help us share this deeply important show with others, and bring “The Thin Place” to Fringe!
where the money goes
The most expensive obstacle in between The Thin Place and our Fringe tour is the cost of travel and accommodations, particularly for Edinburgh Fringe (getting 14 company members from Essex to Scotland isn't cheap!) Your donations would help alleviate the cost of rail/bus fare and room and board for our team, as well as make up for the costs of production, registration fees, and venue booking fees.
Earning our minimum goal of £2000 would recover the majority of our venue booking fees in Camden and Edinburgh:
- EDINBURGH FRINGE: Downtown Edinburgh venue space booking for 6 nights = £1680
- CAMDEN FRINGE: Camden venue space booking for 3 nights = £870
Our ideal goal of £5000 would recover the additional costs of partial ticket sales paid to the venues, as well as pay for travel fees to transport our full, 14-person company from Loughton, Essex to Central London, back to Loughton, to Edinburgh, Scotland and back. This would then ensure that revenue earned from the remaining tickets sales would be redistributed to the artists involved in compensation for their labor.
The Thin Place is produced by the members of the company under Fixed House Theatre Ltd.
