Most people have heard of telenovelas—the drama, the over-the-top moments, the gossip. But have you ever stopped to think… how far from reality are they?
The truth is telenovelas magnify the chaos of real life. They bring to light the secrets, tensions, and unexpected twists that mirror our own stories. And perhaps the most fascinating part? We often don’t even notice these little dramas unfolding in our own lives – until we see them play out on stage. That’s exactly why we need them.
Introducing Not in the Genes
A woman has been hiding a secret for over 18 years. Everything seems okay until the past comes back to haunt her. Will she know how to deal with it?
Melissa and Eduardo met young. But people aren´t always what they appear to be. Despite Eduardo´s attention, care, and ukulele, Melissa falls in love with another man — his brother. An unpredictable pregnancy leads Melissa to a DNA clinic. But is that all? Is that where the secrets end? What will Melissa do to get her way? And will she manage to hide this secret for much longer?
After all, this is not any show, it’s a Telenovela. Who knows what will happen next?

Why We Need Your Support
This August, Tia Theatre Company will bring Not in the Genes to the Camden Fringe Festival. To make this happen, we need your help! Your contributions will go toward:
Venue costs – Bringing our story to the stage (300£)
Transport – Getting our cast and crew where they need to be (between 270-300£)
Marketing – Flyers, Posters, instagram advertising and our own marketing techniques (50£)
Festival participation fees – Making sure we can share our work with audiences (99£)
Props & costumes – Giving our telenovela the flair it deserves (50£)
