We are fundraising for our MA online exhibition show focusing on the lives of young people in Modern Britain.
WHO ARE WE?
We are a group of MA Curatorial Studies students in the School of Philosophy and Art History at the University of Essex. We are organising an online exhibition from the May until the June 2020.
WHAT IS “FOR LOVE OF AVOCADOS”?
“For The Love Of Avocados” seeks to explore the young generation of 21st century Britain and the diverse encounters of everyday lives. Through the lenses of different emerging artists from various British backgrounds, it is our intention to show how imperative it is to portray the reality of the society that surrounds us.
WHAT IS OUR EXHIBITION ABOUT?
The aim of our exhibition is to show how young people today are plagued with stereotypes. The media tells us that young people are stressed, lonely and underpaid. However, it also tells us that they can’t afford housing because they spend too much money on coffee and avocados. Taking an alternative approach, this exhibition delves into moments of the candid everyday lives of young people in Modern Britain. It explores the ways in which young people navigate the quotidian complexities, difficulties and misconceptions of British life today.
COVID-19 has affected the lives of everybody worldwide and our exhibition is no exception, due to the pandemic we have redesigned our exhibition to make it accessible online. As a consequence; while we no longer have to collect and transport the physical art pieces, we instead will create an online platform to show artworks that will be used with the license image consent from the artists. We are excited to explore this new approach to art exhibitions and still intend to hold public programs. We hope to virtually host and record Artist Talks, videos from the Curators and engage with our audience in this very 21st century way.
We have been given a budget, but it is not enough to cover all our costs. In order to create the best exhibition possible, we really need to raise extra funds.
