If Mouth Could Speak

'A hypnotic and moving avalanche of text with sumptuous music and light. Go!' - Christopher Brett Bailey

HELLO! We are trying to get our debut production 'If Mouth Could Speak' to the biggest arts festival in the world - Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

We believe this show is doing something completely new and unique. It combines Spoken Word Poetry, Music, 3D Sound design and story-telling in a really exciting way. Something we haven't seen before.

Accompanied by a searing musical score of deep electronica and jazz, 'If Mouth Could Speak' is a poetic monologue slicing laser-deep into the brain of a young immigrant troubled by suicide. Written by poet-playwright Timotei Cobeanu and directed by composer-director Michael Crean, this is a highly energetic piece of modern beat poetry and dizzying electronic music.

Set in Peckham, it follows the heartfelt story of Danny who, finding himself in a perplexed state of psychosis, takes London by foot, contemplating suicide. London becomes a woman whom with Danny unravels the hassle of urban life: sex, pollution, homesickness and isolation. As the night wears thin, Danny's bipolarity intensifies...This is his comatose brain going back and forth in time, coming back to life.

This is a piece of theatre that we have poured our heart and souls into for the last 24 months, and it means so much to us that so far we have had such a great response from our audiences.

Reviews

‘Powerful and beautiful words in equal measure last night as the future of performance poetry was on display.’ Jason Hall (Royal Court Writing Tutor)

‘Breathtaking. An all consuming poetic piece that has all my senses tingling!’

‘What a gorgeous and raw beast of a play.’

We even had strangers leaving handwritten notes after a performance…

‘Excellent, sensory poetry. Felt like an embroidery.’

Who are we?

An art collective combining new writing with eclectic forms of music, theatre and spoken word. Sense Assembly was formed by poet-playwright Timotei Cobeanu and director-composer Michael Crean. We formed after months of performing at poetry nights around East London and late nights spent in smokey bedrooms working out a way of blending our two passions - music and creative writing.

Help us succeed!

We need as many people as possible to be talking about our project. Everywhere you can think of!

Therefore you don't have to give money to help us succeed! Please share this project with anyone you think might support us – on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, by email, telephone, in a conversation. Over your favourite dance moves at your favourite rave. Over your favourite champagne at your favourite jazz bar. Up to your favourite self, entirely.

In fact, share it with everyone you know as we think it's a great idea, and the more people who know about it, the more likely we are to make this work out brilliantly.

Thankyou!
