My name is Kate, I am a second year Mental Health Nursing Student and I am deeply passionate about mental health advocacy. I believe that everyone deserves access to quality mental health care and support, regardless of where they live. Throughout my academic and personal journey, I have dedicated myself to learning about mental health issues and supporting those in need.
I'm reaching out to you with a heartfelt request for your support. I have been presented with an incredible opportunity with Travelteer to work as a volunteer in a mental health placement in Sri Lanka, in August 2024. This experience will not only enhance my personal and professional growth but also allow me to make a tangible difference in the lives of individuals living with mental health issues in both hospital settings and local communities.
This project offers a unique opportunity to work alongside healthcare professionals in hospitals and engage with local communities to raise awareness about mental health and reduce stigma. I will also be given the opportunity to experience the benefits of traditional Ayuvedic treatment methods.
Sri Lanka faces significant challenges in addressing mental health issues, including stigma, limited resources, and cultural barriers. By participating in this placement, I will have the chance to contribute to ongoing efforts to improve mental health care and support in the region.
