Student Nurse Courtney is fundraising for her Mental Health Placement in Sri Lanka with Travelteer.

Travelteer's nursing placements work with both government and private hospitals in Sri Lanka to provide ethical work experience to Psychology and Medical students, to gain insight into both Eastern and Western approaches to the treatment of physical and mental health problems. Mental Health Placements in Sri Lanka provide volunteer support, making a direct impact on local community clinics, private hospitals and more

ABOUT COURTNEY

I'm Courtney, a second-year Student Mental Health Nurse studying at the University of Essex. I'm delighted to have been offered a Mental Health Placement with Travelteer in Sri Lanka! I hope to develop my knowledge and enhance my nursing skills through volunteer opportunities overseas, learning how to improve well-being with traditional ayurvedic treatment methods. This is such an incredible volunteering opportunity to make a positive impact on local communities and under-funded medical services in Sri Lanka, whilst learning new invaluable skills for growth as a Student Nurse.

My learning opportunities in Sri Lanka: 

  • Karapitiya & Asiri Teaching Hospitals: observing local Psychiatric consultants, Doctors and Nurses across various mental health wards 
  • Ayurvedic Treatment Center: observing a variety of traditional treatments such as acupuncture, as well as the use of herbal remedies for the treatment of stress and anxiety 
  • Sambodhiya Centre: making an impact in disadvantaged Sri Lankan communities, a day centre which looks after children with mental and physical disabilities. Volunteers will provide therapies and basic English lessons, play games and assist in physiotherapy

Where will the money go?

Your donations will go directly to supporting Courtney's learning experience in Sri Lanka. 

  • Registration fee for placements with Travelteer: £168
  • Flights: £900 (estimate)
  • Food, Assigned Transport to Placement, Accommodation, 24-7 Support in Sri Lanka (with Travelteer): £203 p/week (£406 total)
