Help us to keep climbing affordable for our members by buying new climbing shoes !

A short summary of your project

The University of Essex Climbing Club is raising £750 to buy new climbing shoes and trad equipment. This will not only allow us to provide more people with the necessary things, but we’ll keep our new members happy and safe.

Climbing shoes can get very expensive and providing them for our members is essential to help them to continue their sport at an affordable price.

Who are we?

The University of Essex Climbing Club is a fun and international team. Our aim is to create a safe, fun environment for both beginner and experienced climbers. This includes weekly sessions at the Sports Centre wall, day trips to indoor and outdoor walls, and longer trips away to various places in the UK and Europe to climb, hike, socialise and generally enjoy a great sport together!

My name Coline Thevenet and I am the President of the UECC (University of Essex Climbing Club). Therefore, it is my job to make sure the club gets the funding it needs.

our story

Rock climbing is a unique sport that can be a gateway for people into outdoor pursuits and is a lot of fun. It is a very social sport with a fantastic community surrounding it inside and outside of the University environment.

The sport is important to me personally because without it I would not have met so many like-minded people. It really is a great way to engage in sport at your own pace and your own level. The ability for new members to come and try the sport for free is integral to the continuation of the club because without it a lot of people would not be able to begin the sport and engage others with it.

By donating to our important cause you can become a part of the UECC legacy, allowing young potential climbers to become aged with a new sport as well as become inspired by the outdoors and meet great friends and networks in the process.

Where will the money go?

We will buy several pairs of average price climbing shoes to then let our members use them to climb during our sessions, and also trad equipment to enable a safe climbing outdoor :

  • if we reach the minimum target, we will be able to buy 12 pairs of Simond climbing shoes rock  (£40) = £480
  • if we reach more, our funding target, we will be able to buy trad gear, 4 pack of  C.A.M.P Set Tricam Dyneema (£63) = £253
