A psychology graduate mental health hands-on experience

A short summary of MY project

I am raising this money to participate in a volunteering programme run by SLV.GLOBAL which is non-governmental organisation and therefore all the money i will raise will go to the funding of the programme. As a result of the lack of resources and funding of mental health facilities in Bali, SVL and its volunteers contribute to the growth of the community through sessions and activities in psychiatric hospitals. In addition, I will be teaching children English and working with people with special needs. This will not only benefit the community in Bali, but also enable me to gain some amazing and valuable experience within the mental health field.

Who AM I?

My name is Magdalena and I am a final year BSc Psychology student. I have moved to the UK six years ago, from the Czech Republic and completed a year abroad in Singapore last year. Travelling is one of my greatest passions and being able to combine that with the application of my degree knowledge abroad, would truly be a rewarding experience.

MY story

Participating in this project would mean raising awareness of mental health issues and contributing to the collective effort to remove mental health stigma.

We are well equipped in the 'West' to respond to mental health crisis, with the increasing amount of professionals but also volunteers facilitating recovery of patients. In Indonesia however, the access to mental health lacks resources and staff to improve the well-being of patients.

Being able to apply my knowledge of psychology and witness even minor improvements would be extremely rewarding and beneficial in my future work within this field.

I would greatly appreciate any help towards funding my trip and believe that by donating everybody becomes part of the community aiming to remove mental health stigma and help others.

Where will the money go?

The funding I receive will go directly towards the:

- programme fee: £1,000

Any additional funds I will receive will go towards

- admission fee £250

- flight £580 costs.

I will be living in a homestay with a local family during the week, however I need to provide for my own accommodation during the weekends including food and transport.
