The Project
Hamlet meets Tanztheater in a dramatic physical theatre reimagining of Shakespeare. “The Unquiet Mind “ depicts the primal tension between life and death as it delves into the relationships between Hamlet and the women in his life—Gertrude and Ophelia. Poetic, tragic, lonely.
About us
We are Anastasia, Tisa and Ellie, three actors from who met on the MA Acting course at East15.
Anastasia Stern is a classically trained actor based in London. Starting their journey in New York, they studied at The Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute and the Stella Adler Studio of Acting before making their mark on both coasts, performing in productions ranging from Off-Broadway to the L.A. Fringe. Anastasia made their U.K. debut in the "New American Classics" workshop at the Arcola Theatre, portraying Prior from "Angels in America". In addition to The Unquiet Mind, they are working on an independent feature film about a female boxer.
Tisa Klicek is a Croatian actress and theatre maker based in London. She holds a degree in Touring Theatre, and worked with physical theatre and mask acting companies in both the U.K. and Cratia. She devised a one woman show (Pocket Sized Revolution) which debuted at Brighton Fringe Festival before touring around the U.K. and Croatia. Her practice focuses on creating a fusion between text and movement.
Ellie Mather is a London based actor originally from Newcastle. She completed a History and English undergraduate degree at Durham University, where she performed in a variety of shows; from contemporary classics, to Shakespeare, to new writing. It was the latter that enabled her to perform at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2023 with Chance by Yolan Noszkay to acclaim. Ellie's favourite pieces to perform are those that are ensemble motivated and led, lending a variety of voices to a single piece.
Our Show
We wanted to create a piece that explores Hamlet through staging not often seen in classical texts. Through combining Shakespeare’s words with movement pieces, we hope to highlight the universality of Hamlet’s themes of love, loss and loneliness, and how they are just as pertinent today. The show will feature just three characters; Hamlet, Gertrude and Ophelia; as it is vital to us that we emphasise the invaluable role that women play in this classic story, an element which can sometimes be lost in traditional stagings of the text.
We have been lucky enough to have been offered a slot at the Edinburgh Fringe in early August, and cannot wait to experience this unique arts festival with a show that we are so passionate about.
