Come to support A game-like theatre interpret female pregnancy and childbirth!

A short summary of your project

Are you ready to have a baby? How much effort will it take to bring your baby to term safely and successfully? What if the process of pregnancy was treated like a game, traversing layers of hurdles and experiencing several failed endings before finally meeting your new-born?

If you were in charge of this game, how would you choose? Would you give up the chance of a new birth, or would you embrace all the difficulties and move on to that nebulous future?

This is a daring experiment, with the original script co-written by Chinese and British artists, but you as the audience are the key to driving the storyline, and every choice you make will affect the final outcome. So now, GAME starts …

Your story

The Pudding Club is a play that uses a game-like structure to interpret female pregnancy and childbirth, hoping to take the audience on a journey that many women will experience, and challenge them to make some difficult choices. This work derives from a project called WOMEN我们,which was initiated by a theatre group in China named ‘Please Speak Kidlish’. This team of young female artists have the urge to express their confusion about the 'responsibility' of women to give birth in their society. They want to reach out to females in other cultures to find out their opinions. Through their members who studied in the UK, they recruited some artists and participants from diverse cultures. From March to July 2022, they gathered online and held many meetings and workshops, eventually, two parallel productions will be performed at theatre festivals in China and the UK.
