Light Up Diwali with Us: A Grand Celebration at Essex

Who Are We?

We are the Essex Hindu Society and Essex Indian Society, passionate communities of students dedicated to preserving and celebrating our rich cultural heritage. Our teams are driven by a love for our traditions and a desire to create a home away from home for all those celebrating Diwali at the University of Essex.

Our Story

Diwali, the Festival of Lights, is more than just a celebration—it's a time of joy, unity, and the triumph of light over darkness. For many international students, especially those far from home, this festival holds deep emotional significance. It’s a moment to come together, honour our traditions, and create memories that bring us closer to our roots and each other.

What Are We Doing and Why?

This year, we aim to host a Diwali Ball that truly embodies the spirit of the festival. We want to create an event that is grand, vibrant, and filled with the warmth of home. But to make this happen, we need your help! We're raising funds for decorations, catering, performances, and venue booking to ensure that our Diwali Ball is a night to remember for everyone.

Why Is This Important?

This celebration is especially meaningful for international students who cannot be with their families during Diwali. By supporting our event, you're helping us bring a piece of home to Essex. Your donation will directly impact the quality of our event, allowing us to provide delicious food, beautiful decorations, and fantastic entertainment that captures the essence of Diwali.

Location: TBC (aiming for Sports Arena on campus)

Where Will the Money Go?

• Venue Hire: £100

• Catering: £400 (For a turnout of 50 people at £8 per plate)

• Decorations & Performances: £200

• Miscellaneous Costs (sound, lighting, etc.): £100

If we exceed our target, the extra funds will go towards enhancing the event even further—think bigger, brighter decorations, more diverse performances, and additional surprises for our guests!
