Who are we?
We are a group of MA Curating students at the University of Essex. We are organising an exhibition from the 25 April- 23 May 2025 at the Art Exchange Gallery, University of Essex, Wivenhoe Park, Colchester.
What is our exhibition about ?
This exhibition features responses to contemporary crises of care and reflects on the current generation’s cynicism surrounding love.
It reflects on how this generation redefines love, communal relationships and intimacy. Through multidisciplinary works, the exhibition reimagines love not as a risk to be avoided but as a radical force for connection, care, and healing in an age of disillusionment.
We're excited to bring everyone together to connect and share around this topic ! Throughout the exhibition, we'll be hosting a variety of events—a great chance to meet up, explore the artworks through workshops, and join talks with academic researchers.
Why ?
Did you know that 60% of students are still friends with someone they met on their first day of university? And that 59% of Gen Z and Millennials say dating isn’t worth the effort ?
So, where do we stand when it comes to love ?
Love is something that is prevalent at university : for many this is the first time that people have lived away from their families so have to rely on their peers for connections more strongly in previous situations. While our generation can face cynicism and discouragement toward relationships, we think that love is not a risk to be avoided !
Since October we have been working hard on an exhibition that aims to gather and create deep connections between people !
Where will the money go ?
We are hoping to raise £300 through donations to support our exhibition !
The funds will be used to enhance various aspects of the exhibition, including a publication, high quality photography and public programming.
A significant portion of the funds will go toward producing a well-designed exhibition catalogue, which will be available to visitors and archived in the University of Essex Special Collections for future students and researchers.
Additionally, we plan to use the funds to organize public programs, such as arts workshops, to foster engagement and discussion.
Any additional contributions will help us further enrich the exhibition experience, covering aspects such as additional events, food, and refreshments for attendees.
Your support will ensure we can create the best possible experience for our audience !
