WHAT IS THIS SHOW?

We are raising money to fund our long awaited transfer of the play An Average Family. This interactive one-woman show has already had a run at East15 Acting school in the Corbett Theatre, and we hope to invite more audiences into the life of Ella. With its interactive nature, our play seeks to invite audience members to witness what is often hidden behind closed doors. One run of this play is never the same as another, and therefore we always seek to develop and change together with the audience. The story has a constant potential to develop, and we hope to only continue this work in the future - and at our performances at the Old Red Lion Theatre on January 24th and 25th at 7PM!

Who WE ARE

We are Berserk Theatre! A theatre company consisting of Zofia Zerphy and Vilde Bjorkedal. We are passionate theatre-makers who love to write, produce, direct and act in stories we want to tell and share. Intrigued by narratives that defy our expectations of the world we live in, we have already produced and performed our first play How to Urn A Living at different venues in London the past year. We are now so excited to bring An Average Family to these stages and share more of our ideas and work. Coming from countries outside of the UK, we also love to engage in the international theatre scene in London.

OUR story

An Average family was created to shed light onto the stories of children who don't have a safe home to return to at the end of the day. Ella is an example of this - a seemingly happy, sometimes a little naughty, girl who wants someone to hold onto as she faces the quarrels of growing up. Without a safe place to land, she seeks an escape outside the walls of her home - and this is where the audience comes in to bear witness. The play is 70% scripted and 30% improvised - but do not fret - an audience member will never wonder what to say or do (Ella will make sure of that).

Without giving too much away, the question we want to ask with this play is

'Why do people hurt the people they love most?'

We haven't found the answer yet, but we are so excited to explore this question again and see if we can get any wiser with you.

WHERE WILL THE MONEY GO?

In order to do this however, we need to put this play on again! The reason we are doing this fundraiser is to be able to fund:

Rehearsal space: £200

Venue hire: £300

Travel: £70

Equipment hire: £30

Production costs: £100

What is important with a play in this form is to workshop it with people in the rehearsal space in order to optimize the experience for audience members. In our previous run at the IF Festival at East15 Acting School we managed to get groups in, and now that the play has been performed already, we have many additional ideas as to how to improve the play again. The funds we could raise would be essential in the pursuit of making these things happen.

Any amount would be so so appreciated, however, we know that times are hard and there are also a million ways of supporting our play! Spreading the word and sharing this and our platforms promoting the show is the best way to help support this show. Share on instagram or facebook, talk to your friends about it or whisper it into the ear of a stranger. We are so grateful for any support!
