Our aIM
We’re raising £7,000 to bring Scenes with girls to life at London’s Golden Goose Theatre!
Miriam Battye’s play is a hilarious and heart-wrenching exploration of friendship, identity, and societal expectations. It follows Lou, Tosh, and Fran—three 24-year-old women navigating their friendship and self-worth under the pressures of a world obsessed with sex and romance. As Lou embraces an adventurous dating life and Tosh commits to radical celibacy, their friendship strains under the weight of their differences. When Fran announces her engagement, their worlds unravel, leading to a shocking twist that could change everything.
This bold, heartfelt play celebrates the messy, imperfect reality of being human. Scenes with girls asks: What if the story isn’t about waiting for “happily ever after”? What if it’s already happening—in the friendships that shape us, challenge us, and make us who we are?
We first staged Scenes with girls by Miriam Battye as a student production at East 15 Acting School at the University of Essex. The production has now been picked up for professional run at London’s Golden Goose Theatre from April 22 to May 3, 2025. Your support will help cover production costs, pay our talented team, and share this powerful story with a wider audience.
Together, we can create a professional, impactful production that resonates with audiences and launches our careers as theatre makers. Every contribution matters—help us bring this raw, relatable, and unforgettable story to life.
Why This Project Matters
Our team is made up almost entirely of Essex/East 15 alumni, students, and staff, united by a shared commitment to human-first storytelling and fostering a culture of belonging. Proud of our East 15 roots, we’re excited to bring this production to a wider audience.
As an international group of creatives from England, Wales, the US, and France, this project is a vital opportunity to apply our training, refine our skills, and continue our growth as theatre makers. Staging this production at a reputable London fringe theatre will not only showcase our work to reviewers and industry professionals but also serve as a launchpad for future careers.
Most importantly, Scenes with girls celebrates the messy, imperfect humanity of women—a story that resonates deeply in today’s world. Your support will help us bring this bold, relatable narrative to life.
Let’s make it happen!
mEET THE TEAM
We’re a dedicated group of current and former East 15/Essex students and staff, united by our love for theatre. The production is led by Alex Stroming (Director/Producer) under her company, T. Regina Theatre Company, with a talented cast including Emily Farley (Actor/Associate Producer), Elinor Sumption (Actor/Producer), Lyndsey Ruiz (Actor/Producer), and Hannah Renar (Actor). Supporting the team are Emily Nelson (Designer), Phil Hamilton (Lighting Designer--retired East 15 staff), and Meighread Dandeneau (Voice Coach), alongside Jessica Potts (Technical Stage Manager). Together, we’re bringing Scenes with girls to life with skill, heart, and a shared vision.
oUR JOURNEY
We first staged Scenes with girls by Miriam Battye in October 2024 as part of Alex Stroming’s MFA thesis production at East 15. Now, we’ve been offered a professional run at London’s Golden Goose Theatre from April 22 to May 3, 2025.
As a self-producing team, we’re seeking funding through Click to make this production financially viable. Your support will allow us to keep ticket prices affordable, ensuring as many people as possible can enjoy this powerful, relatable story. Relying solely on ticket sales isn’t enough to cover the costs, so every contribution helps us bring this project to life and take the next step in our professional careers.
wHERE WILL THE MONEY GO?
Here is a simplified breakdown of our budget. About a third will go to the venue hire fees, another third to compensating the people involved (excluding the producers), and the last third split between the professional license fee, production costs, and contingency.
- Venue: £2,200
- Cast, Creatives, and Crew (People): £2,150
- Professional Performance License: £1,200
- Set: £500
- Costumes & Props: £100
- Transporting Set: £220
- Marketing, Well-being, Travel Fund: £380
- Overall Contingency at 5%: £337.50
- Total Production Costs: £7,087.50
If we hit our minimum target of £6000, the funding will cover essential costs like venue hire, professional licensing of the play, and basic production expenses, with the hope that we will achieve the rest of our funding through ticket sales.
If we hit our full target of £7,000, we will be fully funded and able to use our ticket sales to pay back our producers, who are currently working as actors/director on this project voluntarily in order to keep production costs low.
Every pound brings us closer to making this production a reality—thank you for your support!
