Project
In a near-future New York apartment, Jacky’s app launch party is underway. The night takes an unexpected turn when his sister Meiru arrives. Amidst Smirnoff shots, Chinese cigarettes, and Vietnamese charcuterie board, a group of young people turn this celebration into an unearthing of truths and identities.
Outside, Godzilla eats the world.
This is a new writing about young people finding their own happiness in the modern world, where identity has become both a fuel and a hindrance on their journeys. The story focuses on the experiences of Asian immigrants, especially the psychological struggles of parachute children as they come of age.
This production is part of the 2024 MFA directing season. We’re looking to raise £2100 to support our creatives and production coming in October.
Why
We felt the importance to address the often unspoken and under-explored racial struggles of Gen Z in a “colorblind” age. The struggles of finding the true self of this generation come from the dissociation from racial history and the false conception of (neo)liberal individual which diffuses the political/systematic racism in our contemporary ideology. We felt the importance to articulate our feelings through storytelling.
Who Are We
We’re a group of international theatre makers based in UK and United States. We make art for under-represented communities in the West, aiming to bring original and provocative theatre work through the power of storytelling.
