The only way we can truly rise is by lifting others.
I am only one, but I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something. and I will not let what I cannot do interfere with what I can do.

MY project:

I am currently raising funds to cover the expenses for my once in a lifetime summer internship in Madrid. I will be working with a Non-profit Organisation for a month. The total cost for my trip is £2,199 and a full breakdown of the costs is shown below. This will be an incredible opportunity for me to gain first-hand experience in a field I hope to be a part of following my time at the University of Essex. I hope to use the opportunity to network with professionals, improve my current Spanish speaking abilities and to use the newly gained knowledge to aid my university studies.

Who AM I?

My name is Vimbai. I was born in Zimbabwe, and raised in Croydon, South London. I am a first year student studying International Relations. I am a driven and hardworking student, with the passion for travelling and a love for Spanish culture. I am optimistic by nature and truly believe that one person has the ability to change the world around them.

MY story

I have chosen to take part in this internship because it will provide me with the opportunity to travel, learn and plan for my future career path. I believe this internship will help me grow as person, as it will allow me to be independent, and to adapt to cultures that are different from what I'm used to.

"So why are you working with a non-profit organisation?" Simple, I want to produce a positive change for those in need. This want was triggered following my work as a Street Fundraiser for the British Red Cross. I learned so much about the things that are currently being done to help less fortunate people. But there is still so much more that can be done. Consequently, here I am asking you to help me, in order to help other people. I won't be working with the British Red Cross , but I will be working with a non-profit whose work is just as important in making a positive change in the world.

ABSOLUTE INTERNSHIPS

I will be undertaking this internship through Absolute Internships, which is a programme that matches university students with international work experiences in elite cities around the world through their links with over 500 global companies. They are a reputable programme with features in media publications like The New York Times, the BBC and Forbes Magazine.

Some of the tasks I will undertake whilst on the internship include:

  • Completing research projects on topics relevant to the company I will be assigned to.
  • Preparing and giving presentations to managerial staff.
  • Collecting and analysing data on different industries and countries.

For more information about Absolute Internships, you can have a look at their website.

Why should you support my internship?

I would like you to support my internship as it will be a massive stepping stone in bettering my future academically, and in a career sense. By interning with a non-profit organisation I hope to use the skills and experience I gain to aid my goal of working with charitable organisations in the future. Whilst this organisation will help me, it will also provide me with the expertise to help a greater number of people in the future. My ultimate goal is to work with the likes of UNICEF and Save the Children and to help disadvantaged children all over the world to acquire the bare necessities that we, living in a developed country, all have. I believe that this internship help me to achieve this goal as it will make me more employable and will improve my transferable skills. It will prove that I have high levels of adaptivity, following successfully working in a foreign country and that I am able to build connections across borders in my field of work.

money, MONEY, MONEY.

Cost breakdown:

The total cost of the internship is £1,849 (this includes accommodation, travel to and from work, airport pick up, weekend excursions and a city tour).

  • If the minimum fundraising target of £1,849 is raised, all the money will go to the costs of the internship.
  • If the maximum fundraising target of £2,199 is raised, then the money will pay for food for the month and      transport back to the airport.
