Help fund me getting the qualification to drive powerboats, to expand my research skills!

RYA powerboat level 2 qualification

I'm raising £450 to undertake the training and testing to be able to operate powerboats under 10m. This will allow me to expand my skills in research and help conduct environmental research in ways I wouldn't be able to before.

Who AM i?

I'm Rory, and I am a PhD student in the school of life science, studying plant biology. Specifically looking at plant productivity and plant-microbe interactions in saltmarsh ecosystems.

Why A Powerboat licence?

Saltmarsh ecosystems exist at the boundary between the marine and terrestrial environments. Having the ability to conduct research both from the land and the sea will significantly increase the avenues i can research through.

Where will the money go?

  • RYA powerboat course Brightlingsea: £250
  • Brightlingsea sailing club temporary membership (required to complete the course: £75
  • Transport to the location over the two days: £25
  • Equipment costs: £100
