WHAT THIS IS ABOUT
The Wave & Loop is raising funds to bring BEIGE to life.
BEIGE is a bold, unsettling new theatre piece that explores identity, race, performance, and the cost of being seen.
At its core, the play follows Joy, a young woman navigating an industry that doesn’t want her truth, only her “marketable version.” Through a sharp, surreal encounter with a Marketing Guru, Joy is pushed to reshape herself into something more “palatable,” more “sellable”… more beige.
What begins as satire slowly unravels into something darker.A loss of self.A question that refuses to go away:

This is a piece that blends physical theatre, absurdity, and psychological realism to create something that is at once funny, uncomfortable, and deeply human.
WHO WE ARE AND WHY WE DO THIS
We are The Wave & Loop, a theatre and storytelling company founded by Jessica Nlabu and Rebecca Tozzoli Clozza.
We met while training at East 15 Acting School, where we developed a shared passion for work that feels raw, honest, and human.
After graduating, we realised we didn’t want to wait for permission to tell the stories that matter to us.
So we created our own space.
A space where work can be uncomfortable.Where identity isn’t simplified.Where audiences are not just entertained, but confronted, reflected, and involved.
BEIGE is the first production we are bringing into the world as a company.
ABOUT THE PLAY
BEIGE is the development of an original solo piece created by Jessica Nlabu during her training at East 15 Acting School.
This new version expands the work into a full production, deepening its physical language, theatricality, and emotional impact.
The play moves between satire and psychological breakdown, exposing the subtle and overt ways people are shaped, reduced, and consumed.
It explores:
Racial identity and “marketability”
Code-switching and performance
The commodification of trauma
The pressure to be “palatable”
The loss and reclaiming of self
Through heightened physical sequences, sharp dialogue, and moments of stillness, BEIGE asks the audience not just to watch… but to recognise.
WHERE WILL THE MONEY GO
Bringing BEIGE to the stage requires both creative vision and practical support.
The £500 raised will help cover rehearsal space costs, allowing the cast and creative team to properly develop and refine the work. Although we benefit from discounted rates, rehearsal spaces can still cost up to £12–£14 per hour, making this an essential investment in the quality and preparation of the productions.
The funding will also support audience outreach through flyers and digital promotion, including social media advertising, with approximately £100 allocated towards promotional materials and online visibility.
