Volunteering IN CHIANG MAI, THAILAND

Hi, my name is Amelia and I am a 2nd year criminology student at the university of Essex with a passion for regenerative travelling. I have been offered an exciting opportunity to take part in a Think Pacific 21-day immersive programme in Chiang Mai, Thailand, focused on ethical tourism, sustainability, and community-led development.

During this experience, I will be guided by local experts and changemakers, visiting a range of inspiring initiatives that demonstrate how communities and social enterprises are using business as a force for good. These visits include eco-tourism projects that protect natural landscapes while supporting local livelihoods, women-led artisan cooperatives preserving traditional crafts, and community enterprises sustaining income through weaving, silverwork, and woodcarving. I will also learn from organisations such as SuperBee, which creates sustainable alternatives to plastic, and Elephant Nature Park, an award-winning sanctuary advocating for ethical animal welfare

The programme also includes cultural immersion through homestays, temple visits, and dialogue with Buddhist monks, offering insight into meditation, ethics, wellbeing, and the role of indigenous knowledge in shaping sustainable communities. These experiences are designed not just to observe, but to reflect, connect, and learn deeply from Thai culture and values

Think Pacific’s Global Learning Framework ensures the experience is immersive and transformative, encouraging participants to gather with curiosity, learn through daily experiences, observe with deeper understanding, build meaningful connections, and apply these lessons to global challenges and future careers. This structured reflection helps turn travel into lasting personal, academic, and professional growth
